Preparing to Publicize Your Web Site

Before you start submitting the address of your website to search engines and other indexes, it's a good idea to prepare your site in order to benefit most from those services. Many indexes have URL submission forms which ask for description information relating to the site, and other look for information in meta tags of HTML documents and index them according to that information. Some information that you might want to create for your site is:

• A one paragraph description, with formatted hotlinks to your site. If you are using a graphical browser, it might be possible to simply paste this into the on-line registration form.
• A list of "keywords" you expect people searching for your site will use.
• An idea of what categories your site would fit into under a hierarchical menuing system.

These will also be useful if you decide to make a more extensive effort to publicize your site later on.
