WebCommerce -- Accepting Credit Cards

Getting your WebCom Shopping Cart to accept credit card transactions online is very simple. All you need to do is tell the WebCom Store Builder with the click of a button that you want it to be able to accept credit card transaction. However, before WebCommerce can handle your credit card transactions, you need to do two things. The first is to get a Merchant Account. Secondly, as WebCom processes credit card transactions through CyberCash, you will also need to Register with CyberCash.

Getting a Merchant Account

In order to accept credit card payments, you need to have a merchant account with an acquiring financial institution. This is a requirement for physical stores as well as stores on the Internet. An acquiring financial institution contracts with merchants to enable them to accept credit card transactions. The acquiring financial institution deposits the daily credit card sales into the merchant's account, minus any applicable fees. You may already have a merchant ID for handling your phone/fax and email orders. You will need an additional ID (called a "terminal ID") specifically for Internet transactions. When you get a merchant account, your bank will assign you a Merchant ID (account number).

Getting your merchant account can be relatively easy. All you need to do is tell your financial institution that you want to open a merchant account that can accept credit card payments with CyberCash. Be prepared to discuss your business practices with your financial institution. For example, your financial institution will need to know what you are selling, and how and when your products or services are delivered. Based on your business setup, your financial institution will help you determine the credit card processing model and credit card processor that are best for you.

Once your merchant account is set up, your financial institution's processor will communicate your merchant account information to CyberCash so CyberCash can ensure the credit card service payments are handled properly.


Registering with CyberCash

WebCommerce works with CyberCash to handle credit card transactions. Because of this, you need to register with CyberCash before your WebCom store can process credit card transactions.

Registering with CyberCash is easy and only takes minutes. Simply go to:

You will be guided through the creation of your username and password. You will be given a CCID, and will be asked to provide information about your company, and finally, you will be asked to sign a service agreements. After that, you're done. You don't need to download software because WebCommerce is already integrated with CyberCash's Cash Register software. You won't need to inform CyberCash of any merchant information, because your financial institution will do that for you. If you have any problems with the registration process, you will need to contact merchant-support@cybercash.com.

After you have finished the registration process you can return to the CyberCash Control Panel to update your company's information, or view your registration status. (Check if your processor has contacted CyberCash and communicated any required information.)

When the entire process is complete, you will need to add your CyberCash information to our system, so that our system knows what your CyberCash ID and hash secret is.
