Spell Checker
This page describes the WebCom Spell Checker, one of the many value added services integrated into the WebCom File Manager.
The WebCom Spell Checker outputs a list of possibly mis-spelled words it finds in the file being checked. If it has incorrectly identified any words, you may then add them to a personal dictionary, removing them from future listings. This enables you to quickly and easily modify its output to exclude whatever specialized terms appear in the content of your site.
The WebCom Spell Checker appears at the beginning of the standard WebCom menu listing at the bottom of the File Editing Screen in the WebCom File Manager. When selected, it outputs a list of possible mis-spellings, each with a checkbox displayed next to it. You may then either return to the File Editing Screen to correct any mis-spellings, or (if you are satisfied that no valid mis-spellings exist) select the checkboxes next to any words you wish to add to your personal dictionary (and thus prevent from being identified as possible mis-spellings in the future) and hit the "Submit" button at the bottom of the screen. When your additions have been saved, you will be notified and prompted to return to the File Manager.
The Spell Checker Preferences screen is directly accessible via the URL: http://webcom.com/~webcom/services/spell_pref, or via the "Preferences" option at the bottom of the Spell Checker screen. It will also appear first time you use this service.
Because not everyone in the world speaks the same version of English (or writes it), the WebCom Spell Checker has the ability to base its output on either British or American usage. By default, it is configured to use American English. To change the language setting, simply select the radio button indicating your preference.
Once in a while, you may wish to turn off usage of your personalized dictionary. To do so, simply deselect the "Use Personal Dictionary" checkbox.
When you are done, hit the "Submit" button to save your changes.
