Managing Your Domain Names
You can use your SiteSaver account to reserve up to 20 domain names. On this page you can learn how you can use your SiteSaver account to register new domains, move existing domain names to WebCom, update domain name registration information, and cancel domains.
The Domain Name Services Menu
If you want to do anything with the domains in your SiteSaver account, including all the things described below, you need to start at the Domain Name Services Menu. To get to the Domain Name Services Menu, follow these steps:
At this point you will be logged into your WebCom account, and will be looking at the Domain Name Services Menu, and ready to work with your domains.
Viewing an Overview of Your Domains
One of the most useful options the Domain Name Services Menu offers is the Overview of your Domain Names. Clicking on this option shows you all the domain names you have in your account, along with their registration status, and other miscellaneous information. While we don't have any instructions to give you about the domain name overview page, we wanted to tell you about it because it's a quick and easy way to help you understand what domains you have in your account.
Registering Additional Domains
One of the best features of your SiteSaver account is that you can register up to 20 domain names with it. To register a new domain name, select the option to "Register (or Park) a New Domain Name", from the Domain Name Services Menu When the registration form comes up, it will already be mostly filled out with the information you provided when you opened the account. Simply complete the form, making sure all the information for all the contacts is correct, and click on the submit button at the bottom of the form.
After you've submitted the form, your domain registration will be sent to the InterNIC (Network Solutions) for registration. Registration is usually completed within a day, but time can vary from a day to a week. While you're waiting for the domain to be registered you can view the status of the registration by viewing the Overview of your Domain Names.
Moving Existing Domains to WebCom
If you have a domain hosted by another ISP that you would like to move to WebCom, select the option to Move Domain Name from Another Provider to WebCom from the Domain Name Services Menu. When the move form comes up, it will already be mostly filled out with the information you provided when you opened the account. Simply complete the form, making sure all the information for all the contacts is correct, and click on the submit button at the bottom of the form.
After you've submitted the form, your domain move request will be sent to the InterNIC (Network Solutions) for processing. When the InterNIC receives this request, they will send an email to the Administrative contact of the domain asking to confirm the move. Once the Administrative contact follows the instructions in the email and confirms the move, the InterNIC will change its records so that the domain is hosted by WebCom. Domain name moves normally take 2 days to a week, depending mostly on how quickly the Administrative Contact confirms the move. While you're waiting for the domain to be moved you can view the status of the domain by viewing the Overview of your Domain Names.
If Your Domain Already Points to WebCom
In some cases you will already have a domain name registered and pointing to WebCom's servers, but WebCom doesn't know that it's supposed to be hosting that domain. If you have a domain that you would like to activate in the WebCom system, select the option, Activate Virtual Hosting and DNS for an InterNIC Domain Name that is already pointing to WebCom from the Domain Name Services Menu. When the activation form comes up, it will already be mostly filled out with the information you provided when you opened the account. Simply complete the form, making sure all the information for all the contacts is correct, and click on the submit button at the bottom of the form. After you have successfully submitted the form, the domain will become active in the WebCom system within a day.
Updating You Domain Information
If your personal information or information about your company changes, (such as your email address) you may want to update the InterNIC on your new information. Especially if you want to be able to move or your domain names around in the future. To update your domain, select the option, Update InterNIC Database Info for your Domain Name(s) from the Domain Name Services Menu. When the update form comes up, it will already be mostly filled out with the information you provided when you opened the account. Simply complete the form, making sure all the information for all the contacts is correct, and click on the submit button at the bottom of the form.
After you've submitted the form, your update request will be sent to the InterNIC (Network Solutions) for processing. When the InterNIC receives this request, they will send an email to the Administrative contact of the domain asking to confirm the update. Once the Administrative contact follows the instructions in the email and confirms the update, the InterNIC will change its records so that the domain is hosted by WebCom. Domain name updates normally take 2 days to a week, depending mostly on how quickly the Administrative Contact confirms the update.
Cancelling a Domain Name
If you no longer need a domain name, you can cancel it from your SiteSaver account and from the InterNIC. To cancel your domain, select the option, Cancel a Domain Name and/or Virtual Hosting from the Domain Name Services Menu. When the cancelation form comes up, list the reason for cancelation in the provided box, and select whether you want the domain simply removed from the WebCom servers, or removed from WebCom and deleted at the InterNIC as well. Click on the submit button at the bottom of the form to submit the cancelation.
After you've submitted the form, if you selected for the domain to be removed from InterNIC a cancelation request will be sent to the InterNIC (Network Solutions) for processing. When the InterNIC receives this request, they will send an email to the Administrative Contact of the domain asking to confirm the cancelation. Once the Administrative contact follows the instructions in the email and confirms the cancelation, the InterNIC will delete the domain name. Domain name cancelations normally take 2 days to a week, depending mostly on how quickly the Administrative Contact confirms the cancelation.
