File Manager Preferences Form
This page is part of the Web Communications Guide to Using the WebCom File Manager. It provides an overview of the form used to configure the appearance and behavior of the file manager.
Accessing the Preferences Form
The File Manager preferences screen may be reached either directly, at http://webcom.com/~webcom/services/fmgr_pref, through the WebCom Services Menu, or by clicking on the File Manager Preferences hotlink when using the File Manager.
Available Options
- Browser
- This is a drop down list box. When the down arrow is selected, a list of known browsers appears.
The default browser type is Netscape. Currently, this is the only browser we've tested which fully supports all the features of the file manager. It also provides higher performance when the icons feature is turned on, due to its ability to use internally stored images, instead of loading external images.
- Action After File Save
- This is a drop down list box. When the down arrow is selected, a list of available options appears.
The default is "render", which causes the saved file to be displayed as it when a user views it. Other options are "edit", which causes the file editing screen to be redisplayed with the contents of the saved file, and "directory", which causes the directory where the file is saved to be listed.
- Show Access Authorization Button
- Toggles display of the Access Authorization button.
- Display Icons in File Listing
- When checked, icons will be displayed next to file names, indicating what type of file they are. Users with browsers other than Netscape may want to turn this feature off to increase the speed at which directory listings are loaded and displayed. Note: Users with browsers based on NCSA Mosaic should turn this off, since these browsers do not properly support returning a image in the output of a form. These browsers include NCSA Mosaic, Air Mosaic, and NetCruiser.
- List Directories Recursively
- Controls whether or not a branching directory tree of directories underneath the listed directory is displayed.
- Edit File Window Dimensions __ rows X __ cols
- Controls the height and width of the File Editing Screen (convenient for those with small screens, such as users with laptops and notebooks).
