File Manager Preferences
This page is part of the Web Communications Guide to Using the WebCom File Manager. It provides an overview of the options available to configure the behavior and appearance of the appearance of the WebCom File Manager.
Modifying the File Manager Preferences
The File Manager may be configured using the
File Manager Preferences Form
(selecting this hotlink will automatically log you in as the guest user).
The URL for this form is http://webcom.com/~webcom/services/fmgr_pref.
Normally, you will access the File Manager Preferences form by clicking on the "Preferences" hotlink at the bottom of your screen in the File Manager. The Preferences form is automatically displayed the first time you try to use the file manager, and also anytime there is a change to the preference options (due to an upgrade of the File Manager application).
Configuration Options
- Browser
- Use this option to set tell the File Manager what browser you are using. This enables the File Manager to take advantage of special features available in some browsers, such as internal storage of icons (which enhances performance).
- Action After File Save
- This feature tells the File Manager what to do after you press the "Save" button in the File Editing Screen and the file is saved. You have 3 options:
- Render - If you were editing a file with a .html extension, after you save the page is "rendered", or displayed to you as you would see the page if you'd simply entered its URL in your Web browser. (If the file is not an .html file, the directory listing is redisplayed). This is the most commonly chosen option, and is the default. This is a valuable feature since it allows you to instanly see the effect of your changes to .html files.
- Directory - The directory listing in which the file resides is redisplayed.
- Edit - After save, you remain in the file editing screen to continue editing.
- Show Access Authorization Hotlink
- Toggles display of the Access Authorization hotlink at the bottom of the File Listing Screen.
- Display Icons in File Listing
- Controls whether or not icons will be displayed next to file names.
- List subdirectories recursively
- If checked, when a directory is listed, the entire tree structure of any subdirectories are displayed as well. Allows you to jump directly to deeply nested directories from the top level.
- Edit File Window Dimensions __ rows X __ cols
- Sets the number of vertical and horizontal lines the edit window takes up on your screen. Useful for tailoring the size the edit screen to the optimum for your display monitor.
