Why do files show up on my access report that don't exist in my account?

The WebCom logs record successful as well as unsuccessful file requests to your account. For instance, if you were to have a file at http://webcom.com/~webcom/userid/links.html, and someone mistyped the URL as http://webcom.com/~webcom/licks.html, your access report would show an access to www/licks.html, though no file was actually transferred.

Sometimes you may find many incorrect accesses repeatedly appearing on your reports. This is usually the result of an incorrect link to your site on another's Web page, or an incorrect link which has been mentioned on an Internet discussion group. These types of accesses on a report sometimes cause people to suspect that their account has somehow been compromised. If the files truly do not exist, however, then these kinds of accesses should not worry you.
