For morem information about domain names at WebCom, please see our Domain Name Services documentation.
Description
This Domain Name Service is a form that you can use to initiate the update of the information for an InterNIC domain name. This form works exclusively with the InterNIC. For information about registering non-InterNIC domain names, please see Non-InterNIC domain names.
Update InterNIC Database Information
To use this option, change the information in the form to reflect changes that you would like to make to the domain name in the InterNIC's database. The information that shows in the form should be current with the InterNIC's information, but may not be if you have made changes directly with the InterNIC. When you have completed your changes and clicked on the submit button, your request to update the domain is emailed to the InterNIC. These events are shown as an AR (application received) and an UM (update mailed) in the Overview of your Domain Names.
If your update application lists an organization that is different from what the InterNIC has on file for that domain, the InterNIC will not process the update. If you list a organization that is different in any way (including spaces, abbreviation, and capitalization), the InterNIC will consider it a transfer of the ownership of the domain. The InterNIC responds to these requests by sending you a 500 line message detailing the proceedure for transferring the domain between organizations. If you are not attempting to transfer a domain between organizations, make sure that you use the organization name that the InterNIC has on file for that domain.
The InterNIC normally acknowledges receiving the request withing 24 hours. This event is shown as a UA (update acknowledged) in the Overview of your Domain Names, and means the the InterNIC is processing the request. If you View the Status of your Domain Name, you will see the NIC-handle (tracking number) that the InterNIC has assigned to this update. This number is used to reference your application in the unlikely event that you need to contact the InterNIC about your request.
Although we add your domain name to the WebCom DNS servers immediately, it normally takes up to a week for the InterNIC to process an update. When the domain is updated, the registration overview shows UC (update complete). When the InterNIC has completed the update they will update their databases.
Domain Name Parking
By default, when you register a domain name, it becomes active in your WebCom account, allowing you to create a web site and email addresses for that domain name. Alternately, you can choose to simply reserve this domain name and "park" it. If you choose this option by checking the "Park this Domain?" checkbox the domain will be registered as normal with the normal InterNIC fee, but web and email service is not activated, and WebCom does not charge you any monthly fee for the hosting of the domain. The only fee the WebCom charges is a one-time $20 fee for the registration/parking of this domain name.
When you wish to use this domain in the future, you can easily unpark it and use it as any other domain name. For more information about Domain Name Parking (including parking and unparking domain names) please see our Domain Name Parking documentation.
Additional Notes
There is no fee for making changes to a domain name.
The move domain name form is divided into 6 sections. Each section has a hotlink to a help page for that section.
